FOSMA BBQ Success!

Last Saturday the Friends of St Martin's Academy gathered together, chased away the rain clouds and made sure that their very first welcome BBQ was a real winner.

Braving the weather, the FOSMA team set the bench mark for the coming year very high with nearly 200 advance ticket sales for their inaugural BBQ.  With Hoptons of Hoole supplying the high quality burgers and sausages for the BBQ and a small army of parents ensuring that the supply of tasty morsels was plentiful, children and adults alike tucked into what will probably be their last BBQ food of the year.

Inside school, refreshments both hot and cold were served throughout the afternoon with volunteers manning both 'bars' keeping the drinks flowing.  Lee and Sue Lynch organised a pop up bar with tasty cocktails and fizz to help families celebrate whilst the FOSMA committee organised the teas and coffees as well as the soft drinks for children.

The team did not forget the entertainment for the afternoon with circus skills on offer for the children and Ben Stafford entertaining guests in the hall with a collection of catchy songs.  The rain also enticed the children into the playground with many enjoying the puddles and taking refuge in the shelters on site.

Raffle prizes were supplied by many local businesses with Red Door, Gusto, The Alchemist, Convivio and the Ring O'Bells in Christleton ensuring that the lucky winners left with the promise of another entertaining evening in the near future. Local barbers GHQ also donated a raffle prize as well as The University of Law and Chester FC doing their bit to support the school too.  The raffle was a great success and with tickets only costing 50p each, there were a number of happy winners leaving school at 5pm.

Altogether the event raised a huge total of £900 which is a wonderful sum to start the fundraising for the school year. More importantly, it was a lovely way for families new and old to come together and celebrate being a part of the St Martin's family.
