This week started with tennis, the children have been perfecting their ‘ready position’ and over arm serves. Newgate have been developing their racket handling skills, and learning to adapt them when they change from a forehand to a backhand. Bridgegate and Watergate went through the stages of giving the ball a high five as an introduction to the overarm serve, a difficult skill to get to grips with, so we will continue to work on this in the coming weeks.

In cricket, everyone has been learning and developing their fielding skills, from bowling skills to overarm throwing to using the long barrier. These skills were put into practise by some of our year three and four cricket team on Wednesday. Chester School Sports Partnership hosted a diamond cricket festival, seventeen schools were split into smaller groups and each school had 4 games. The St Martin’s team played really well, with some excellent batting and fielding they won three out of the four games, and loved every minute.

It has been great to hear about the children taking part in sports outside of school; over the weekend some of our boys attended a rugby tour, a great experience to have with their team and coaches. We have also had success from one of our reception children in supporting his team to win a football tournament.
