With sport at the forefront of everyone’s mind this week, both children and parents of St Martin’s have really stepped up and demonstrated their love and enthusiasm to be active. In previous years, Sport Relief has only been a one-day event and last time around the teachers cycled the distance to London on a static bike. This time, we have gone above and beyond with both children and parents getting involved in the events. Each day there has been a new challenge and we have been overwhelmed with the participation and the donations that have been made.

On Monday we started off the week with a special parents edition of Miss Howarth’s ‘Dance Squad’. It was great to see the children and parents alike enjoying and getting stuck in with the dance moves. The following day was “Test it Tuesday” and we once again invited everyone in to give the bleep test ago; an old school favourite for many of our parents, the morning session was filled with competitive mums, dads and children taking on the challenge. It was fantastic to see the encouragement the parents gave to our little legged runners throughout the test. Everyone who took part gave it their all and our parents were challenged right to the end by some of the year four running squad. Wednesday started off with a 'Skip-a-thon' and was followed on Thursday by an inter-house dodgeball tournament. Finally on Friday they took part in a Joe Wicks HIIT session, an exhausting week for all.

Meanwhile the children have also been busy in their core PE lessons finishing off their net/wall games, gymnastics and dance units. And it was an exciting visit for our Key Stage 1 tag rugby team as they travelled to Oak View to take part in the North West Academies Tag Rugby Festival. The children behaved impeccably and showed their skills on the pitch winning 3 out 4 of their games and drawing the final game, a brilliant all round performance. Similarly in Key Stage 2 the football team had their final football fixture of the season, the boys showed grit and determination but were unlucky to lose to a strong side at J H Godwin.
