Sports Round Up.

Last Friday the school 3/4 football team visited Dee Point primary in the penultimate league game. The match started off really close with both teams scoring to make it 2-2 in close succession. The muddy conditions started to take their toll as Dee Point scored 3 more to finish 5-2. The conduct of the team on Friday was excellent, with all of the boys demonstrating excellent sportsmanship throughout and being graceful in their defeat.

With the half term drawing to a close, the children have been taking part in some well-deserved reward PE lessons. Eastgate finished their unit of dance and performed their ‘Walk Like an Egyptian’ routine in celebration assembly. During the unit the children developed their own motifs, used unison and canon in-group sequences and develop positions and gestures using Egyptian images as a stimulus. As a reward for their hard work the class had a go at handball, with the children who attended the tournament the previous week passing on their knowledge and skills. Eastgate enjoyed learning the rules and applying them in a fast roll on, roll off tournament.

In Northgate, the children took part in a 6 nations rugby inspired tournament, renamed ‘4 nations rugby tournament’, which involved the houses taking on the role of the home nations and playing a round robin of tag-rugby games. The children applied their knowledge of the rules and game play to successfully play against each of the home nation teams, with Owls (Wales) coming out on top.

In swimming, the children from Bridgegate to Eastgate have been signed up to take part in the ‘School Swimathon’. The children were asked to see how many lengths they could swim in 20 minutes at the beginning of the half term. They were then challenged to see if they could improve that score last Friday. With only 4 weeks of lessons, most of the children had already improved their distances. They will have one more assessment on the last swimming session of next half term. The children have also been ticking off how many swim sessions they have taken part in both in and out of school to earn their Bronze, Silver and Gold swimming awards. They can continue to earn these awards up until Easter and swimming over the holidays will also count towards their award.
