'An Outstanding School' – Ofsted June 2015   Read the report here

What a Busy Week.

This week has been filled with competition in a variety of sports.

On Tuesday a team of year 4 pupils took part in a handball competition at Tarporley High School and, like most of the competitions that we host with North West Academy Trust, the children had never really played the sport before so it was an opportunity for them to learn new skills and develop an understanding for the game. The more games they played the more they improved, beating both Oak View and Doddleston. The team faced tough competition against Delamere and Ellesmere and ending up finishing third overall. All of the children had a great time and hope to learn more about handball in the future.

On Wednesday it was the annual NWAT Orienteering Cup, a house competition that involves mixing up the schools to compete for their house amongst other children from the trust schools. This year Ellesmere joined in the fun, which meant we had 48 children take part in the competition. The frosty but sunny conditions were perfect for the children to take on the yellow course, a 2.5km route that doesn’t take you too far off the beaten track in search of the 8 controls around the forest. The houses were split into two and then set off, with a staggered start, navigating themselves around the forest. Once all the house teams were finished the times were combined to find the fastest time and for the second year running the Owls were the winning team. Next week all of Watergate will be taking on the challenge, but now that a few of the children have completed the course they should have some experts amongst them.

The first of two football events this week was the Chester SSP 5-aside football tournament, hosted by Blacon High School. A squad of 8 boys played in a group with 4 other Chester schools, drawing 2 games and losing 2 games, the boys played really well and just missed out on progressing to the next round. The tournament was the first outing for the new junior football kit; we would like to thank both AM Supplies and Money Tree for the fantastic new kit.
