Team Efforts!

Year 1 MK

Another successful sporting week at St Martin’s this week, kicking off with another Eredivisie League game for our year 3/4-football team.

This time the team were away at the Chester University versus University Church Free School, the boys put in a strong performance and after almost scoring from a free kick, William scored the first goal. Following some excellent play making and passing from Harry, the team were battling at the oppositions goal, which resulted in an own goal from the home team. To finish, Benjamin put one home to make it 3-0, UCFS came back with a strong last ten minutes and after a counter attack they scored to make it 3-1 final score.

Building on their peer’s success, the key stage one netball team travelled to Oak View Academy for the North West Academies Trust netball tournament. St Martin’s had two 5-a-side teams playing in different groups, both teams put on a great performance winning every game, which lead them to be the overall winners of the tournament.

In PE this week all of the children have been developing their hockey skills, from the very early stages of dribbling and passing to developing the slap hit and lifting the ball. We have been very impressed with the hockey skills that have been demonstrated throughout the week; hopefully we will have a strong hockey team in the future. In cross country this week Northgate and Eastgate were setting a benchmark in the bleep test, seeing which stage they can reach at the beginning of this unit, working to improve their endurance over the next few weeks to then see if they can reach a higher stage at the end of the half term.

On Thursday the year 1 football team had their turn at taking part in the Mini Kickers event, this had previously been postponed due to bad weather so was a much anticipated event. After the success from the classes who had previously taken part, we set our sights on the semi finals to equal their success. The year 1 football team exceeding those expectations and made it all the way to the final facing our friends at Delamere Academy, unfortunately they lost 1-0 in the final but all of the team were brilliant throughout and we are all very proud of their achievements.
