A new half term brings us new sports to explore and develop.

On Monday the children in Key Stage 1 started their tag rugby unit, starting with basic tag games using the belts followed by the rugby passing technique.

Following on from the introduction to navigation and exploration on the trip to Broomheath on Monday, both Northgate and Eastgate started their orienteering and cross-country unit. The first session was an introduction to OAA and looked at problem solving, team and map building activities followed by a short orienteering course around the playground, unscrambling the final word. This half term both classes will be preparing for the Delamere orienteering challenge in December.

The final sport this half term is hockey. For our youngest sports people, this means getting to grips with the stick as this is one of the most awkward things to hold, with our older children now demonstrating a more natural ability for the sport being able to pick up a stick and play without having to think about their grip.

On Thursday, the newly formed Newgate football team took part in the Manchester City Mini Kickers tournament at Blacon High school, an event that our Year 2 team successfully played their way through to the semi finals. This time, with thirteen schools competing, the blues had a tough challenge ahead of them. In the group stages the team managed to win five out of the six games, and were heading to the semi finals, matching that of the Year 2 football team, Unfortunately the blues were knocked out at this stage losing 1-0 to Acresfield Primary. A brilliant effort from the team, their first tournament and an achievement to be proud of!

Thank you to Thomas for sending in his judo achievements, competing in his first competition and finishing with a bronze, a brilliant accomplishment! Also to Nathan who completed a very muddy Halloween Mucker over the half term, he is almost ready for Tough Mudder!
