St Martins Academy Chester

'An Outstanding School' – Ofsted June 2015   Read the report here

The final week of this half term has been jam packed with sporting excitement.

On Monday we had a visit from Judo Jess to give a whole school demonstration for the clubs she runs both on a Tuesday and a Friday morning. All of the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part and watching the exciting games, hopefully Jess will have a few more judoka’s join her very soon. A Judo Master class followed this, a selection of children from St Martin’s, Delamere and Oak View Academy took part in the skills session to try and extend their judo knowledge. All of the children had a great time, and loved the intensity of the small group judo session.

football league

On Tuesday our Year 3/4-football team visited Delamere Academy for their first game in the league. The first half of the game was filled with possession from St Martin’s but even after a few shots on goal the boys were unable to score. The second half was again filled with possession from the blues and after some strong attacking from Benjamin he was able to score from quite away out. This was followed by some excellent midfield decisions from Harry setting up Jackson to score the second goal. Finally Jackson scored again, the third and final goal of the game. Both teams showed great sportsmanship throughout and we were very pleased and proud of the result.

Finally on Thursday the Year 2-football team took part in the annual Mini Kickers event, this year Blacon High School hosted on their new football pitches. The group stages got off to a solid start beating UCFS 2-0, this was followed by a loss to a very strong Acresfield side and then a win against Chester Bluecoat. After finishing second in the group the team progressed onto the quarterfinals, after drawing 0-0 at full time three children took on penalties taking us through to the next round. The blues eventually lost in the semi-finals 4-1; all of the team played really well and have been inspired by our older children’s success.

Looking ahead to next half term we will once again be taking on the Delamere Orienteering trail with both Northgate and Eastgate, we ask that anyone who would like to volunteer please get in touch as soon as possible.
