Fit for Fixtures!

A very exciting week of sport this week as we had our first fixture of the year.

On Wednesday six boys from Watergate travelled to Delamere Academy for a key stage 1 football festival, joining both Oak View and Ellesmere in a series of mini matches. The festivals are first and foremost all about fun and gaining experience playing against different children, it helps them to improve their skills and understanding with each game. The boys became more confident and managed to win most of their games and score plenty of goals, finishing second overall.

During the school week the classes have been continuing to build upon their sporting knowledge. In Key Stage 1, in both netball and football, the children have all been improving their passing and receiving working on accuracy and hand eye coordination to ensure they are consistently being successful in both sending and receiving the ball. In Watergate they have been progressing on their skills to take part in modified games, including line ball where they have been using their new dribbling skills to try and move into space before passing the ball.

In Key Stage 2, the focus has been more on the learning of games and rules, with the children taking on different roles each week. In football they have been developing their defending skills, both intercepting and tackling the opposition.

With the return of swimming this week the children were all raring to get back in the water and show off their skills after the summer holiday. It has been great to hear about swimming successes during their break as it is so important to keep up their time in the water.
