River Journeys

Can you believe our classroom has been turned into a river- wow!

Watergate have had a fabulous week that starter with a classroom transformation. The children were excited to explore the river and take in all the sights and smells before using their experience to create pic collages to describe this specular setting- well done Watergate. On Tuesday, the children were greeted by many mysterious objects are were challenged to think of the connection and character that might used these objects. Watergate posed excellent questions we focused on the punctuation necessary to write all our wonderful questions.

Using illustrations from this half term’s focus text, A River by Marc Martin, Watergate were able to name the nouns displayed and learned to scribe expanded noun phrases- amazing! As the week progressed, the children utilised their prior learning of poetry features to write wonderful river poetry that even included super similes.

In maths we have focused on 2D shapes and investigated the properties of these shapes. We applied our learning to recognise irregular shapes and displayed our new knowledge on geoboards- super stars. Next week we will progress to 3D shapes.

The following websites, videos and games are a great way to extend and consolidate your child’s learning.
