A Dragon's Day Out.

Watergate have had an exciting week that concluded with an brilliant trip to Broomheath.

The children were delighted when Simon, a dragon expert, took us on a dragon hunt around the Plantation. Watergate really enjoyed this bush craft experience and learned how to use tools safely, in an appropriate environment. We worked together to build look out dens, fairy houses and toasted marshmallows over a fire- what a wonderful day! Thank you to all the staff at Broomheath Plantation and all our parent volunteers.

Our love of learning outdoors was also incorporated to SPAG lessons this week. Watergate went on a SPAG hunt around the playground, answering questions based on our previous learning of verbs, nouns, adverbs and adjectives before starting our new exploration of homophones. The children have worked hard to identify and match words that sound the same but have different meanings and are starting to recognise these in their independent reading- super!

The following games would be a great way to discuss homophones at home.

Watergate have been working hard in maths this week, exercising their prior understanding of partitioning to add two and three digit numbers, using the column method. As the week progressed we extended our learning and have started to add numbers that involve carrying- excellent! Next week we will explore subtraction using the column method, so practising addition at home will be extremely beneficial.

Please bring in a cereal box for next week's art lesson.

Have a fabulous weekend,

The Year Two Team.
