Watergate were so excited to see, on Monday, that their determination to catch The Porridge Thief had made local news headlines.

The Chester Chronicle, detailed the children’s efforts and echoed our plea for witnesses to come forward in the following article: Super Sleuths at St Martin's Academy Investigate Messy Intruder.

Subsequently, on Tuesday morning, Watergate welcomed PC Bartlett back into school and he shared the news of a capture. He was so impressed with the children’s persistence and detective skills that he awarded every child with a certificate – well done Watergate.

Watergate have been working very hard to improve their understanding of how spelling, punctuation and grammar can add power and emotion to a piece of writing. Inspired by the capture of Goldilocks, the children enjoyed exercising this understanding to edit the tradition tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bear.

Similarly, they worked hard to sequence and retell their version before performing it in house teams.

The children looked at blurbs from various books, identified the key features and created a success criteria. Watergate then used their success criteria to write their own blurbs which are fabulous- well done Watergate!

Maths has been very practical this week as Watergate explored money. They have worked hard, in house teams, to name and identify British coins, drawing focus to the new one pound coin. As the week progressed the children used their knowledge to add coins and find different ways to represent different totals.

Please work with your child’s application of these skills by facilitating opportunities for them to identify and use money in practical situations. In addition the following games are a great way to consolidate your child’s learning.

Puppy Purchase.

Toy Shop Money.

Coconut Ordering.

Have a relaxing weekend.
