Watergate have had a fun filled week as we continued preparing for Christmas.

On Monday morning, the children were excited to find a Christmas elf hiding in the classroom. He had left a note detailing his arrival, his purpose and requested Watergate choose his name. After much deliberation the children have decided to name the elf Bob and were keen to reply to his letter with the news - super stars!

Bob left us a Christmas tree and whilst listening to Christmas songs, Watergate worked together to decorate our classroom. We are so happy with the result- great teamwork.

As the week progress, Bob the elf was a little mischievous and left messages on our board, hung upside down, had a bath with marshmallows and left every child a chocolate on the tree. I wonder what Bob will get up to next week?

On Tuesday, Watergate were delighted to welcome Fire Fighters from Cheshire Fire and Rescue to St Martin’s. The children were in awe of the fire fighters and really enjoyed learning about fire safety in our homes.

Watergate had so much fun learning about the equipment, clothing and procedures used by the fire fighters before exploring different sections of the fire engine (inside and out). The visit ended on a high, as the children learnt to hit targets with a high-pressured hose. Thank you to Cheshire Fire and Rescue for an inspirational visit.

Even with all this excitement Watergate still managed to stretch their brains and explored fractions in maths. Working with Miss Hodkinson, the children investigated how to recognise, find, name and write fractions 1/3, 1/4, 2/4, and 3/4 of a length, shape, set of objects or quantity.

The following games and videos are an excellent way to support your child with these skills.

The children have been practising hard for their Christmas performance. Please continue to support you child with their lines so they can move away from scripts and speak fluently.

Have a restful weekend,

The Year Two Team.
