Discovery Days.

Another very busy week for Shipgate this week.
In maths, the children have been using bar model to solve a variety of fluency, reasoning and problem solving questions. They have worked in house teams and individually to solve a wide variety of problems. As well as this, we consolidated our understanding of column subtraction, involving exchanging.
In English, the children have begun their persuasive writing unit. This week, Shipgate have been looking at audiences and purposes for this writing, as well as key vocabulary and phrases that are used within the writing. They worked together in house and table teams, to design a new mobile phone and create a persuasive advert for it. As part of their SPaG sessions, the children learnt about possessive apostrophes as these are set to come up within our persuasive writing.
In their topic work, the children have been looking at the differences in landscapes between a variety of different cities across the world, as well the importance of love at Christmas time.
On top of all of this, the children have been enjoying their continuing debating and enterprise sessions. During their enterprise session the children designed their own piece of clothing, and they had to think about their target audience, the materials used and therefore how much they would charge for the item of clothing.
In their debating session, the children learnt about the motion can affect many groups of people, and that these people are called ‘stakeholders’ because they can be affected by the motion. In pairs, the children were given a number of decisions to make about what path to take on a mystical journey. They had to act as the stakeholders and decide what decision they were going to make over the potential motions, backing up their answer with a point, evidence and explanation.
