'An Outstanding School' – Ofsted June 2015   Read the report here

Homework to be returned to school by Wednesday 1st February 2017.

Northgate over the next few weeks will be focusing on the importance of expressing themselves on their well being both for mind and body. We have been practising lots of breathing techniques and mediation throughout the day to ensure they feel relaxed and able to express themselves. Over the coming weeks the children will be identifying more about themselves as an individual and as learner. As part of this each child is going to create a learning journey of everything that helps them to express themselves and this will stay with them and be added to throughout their time at St Martin’s.

We would like them to bring in a note pad/ scrap book of their choice (can be any design as it is special to them) plain or lined – we only ask that it is no smaller than A5. We would really like to have these in school by the week commencing the 6th of February. If you have any questions, please come and see me. In addition, they will also be designing and creating a tool-kit that will help them to express themselves. Please if possible could the children bring in a shoe box to school before the 6th of February.

Thank you.

Maths Workshop

Several parents enquired about a maths workshop at parents evening. An workshop has been planned in to the school calendar and you will be informed with plenty of notice when this is should you like to attend. I will also be creating a pack of resources with current strategies on to support both your child and you at home.

Homework Hints

As part of your home-school agreement homework is provided to consolidate and extend your child’s learning. We appreciate your child is already working very hard in school so we hope these hints may prove to be useful and ensure the children feel more positive towards it.

* Use a timer – 15 minutes per activity is more than enough time, if they haven’t completed it in that time praise them for doing well and just record it in their book where they get up to.

* Lots of positive praise, if it is too challenging, please let the team know and we will work with them on it during morning challenge.

* Find quiet, calm space. (They may want to choose where this is and what home comforts they have in there).

* The children know all about their need for brain fuel (food and drink).

* If they hit a brick wall encourage them to do their hand breathing of bubble breathing (they have learned this in school this week) it will help for them to re-focus and regulate their breathing. If this doesn’t work then either try again on another day or write a note and let us know.

*Time of day – everybody is different and learn best at different times and with lots of extra curricular activities to fit in, it can be hard to find the right time. If the time or day you are doing homework doesn’t suit, see if you can change it. 15 minutes may seem much more manageable on a different day.

* Blue certificates will be awarded to those children who hand their homework in on time.

Thank you for your hard work, effort and continued support.
