'An Outstanding School' – Ofsted June 2015   Read the report here

Friday 16th February – Monday 26th February

Any misconceptions will be addressed after the children complete their homework tasks. These may be done through whole class, small group or individual sessions.

KS2 Comprehension pages 10 & 11 – Let’s Get Growing

Over the past 4 weeks, the children have been highlighting key features of texts. Please encourage them to recognise these features such as heading, subheadings and paragraphs.

If your child finds the text particularly tricky, please read it to them and ask them to answer the questions. Being able to understand and answer the questions is the focus here. Remember to use the glossary at the bottom of the page!

KS2 Maths Workout Year 3 pages 25 & 26 – Fraction Calculations

This requires the children to use and apply the number skills they are developing this year. They have practiced adding and subtracting fractions and finding fractions of a number within class. They should be reminded that they do not add the denominators (bottom number).

Page 25 – 1. The children have been taught to use sharing to find the fractions of a number. Ensure they recognise that a quarter is 1/4. They should draw the number of circles of the denominator (4 circles) then share each number equally. They can then count one of the circles to find a quarter.  2. The children may need to be reminded they do not add the denominators, only the numerators.  3. This requires the children to count the squares in each box then add them together for the third box. It would be useful for them to write what fraction of each shape is shaded above to secure their understanding of presenting fractions.

Page 26 – 1. The children need to apply the skills they have used on the previous page, investigating which two fractions add together to make the answer. 2. Again, they should draw the number of circles of the denominator (5 circles) then share each number equally. They can then count one of the circles to find a fifth. 3. The children need to apply the same skills as question 2. The numerator is the amount of circles they need to count to find the answer. (2/5 then count 2 of the 5 circles).

Culture Day – Monday 26th February

The children are expected to complete a fact file about their chosen country to present on the first day back. Please see the letter from the KS2 Team which explains exactly what questions the children should research and how it may be presented.

Sumdog - Please encourage your child to use Sumdog during the half term.

Spelling - Spellings have been added to your child’s new spelling book. These will be tested on Thursdays.

Reading – Please continue to read often with your child. If your child is a free reader, it is important they read a variety of text types and different authors – to continue to secure their enjoyment of reading. The children have access to a range of texts within our class library, which they are encouraged to use when changing their books. They are welcome to read a book from home within school.

Thank you for your continued support.

Friday 9th February to Thursday 15th February

Any misconceptions will be addressed after the children complete their homework tasks. These may be done through whole class, small group or individual sessions.

KS2 Grammar Punctuation and Spelling – Pages 24 & 25 Prepositions.

The children have been identifying and using prepositions within their Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar sessions this week.

KS2 Problem Solving 1

Pages 22 TV Times: This requires to apply their knowledge of time, which they were developing within Maths last week. Hints: 1. The children need to identify the time shown on the clocks, then look at the TV schedule to identify which programme started at that time. This helps the children to recognise the time both on an analogue clock and 12-hour digital clock 2, 3, 4 & 5. It may help the children to write next to each programme on the schedule how long it lasted for, so they can calculate using addition to find the answers.

Page 23 TV Times: This also requires to apply their knowledge of time, which they were developing within Maths last week. Hints: 6. The children need to use the TV schedule to see which time the next programme starts. This would be the time each of the programmes finish. 8. This does not have to be a programme listed on the schedule. They may need help to find the time they start and finish.
