'An Outstanding School' – Ofsted June 2015   Read the report here

BeFunky Collage 5

Northgate have had a wonderful week this week exploring culture within their unit of inquiry Who We Are.

Homework to be returned to school by 7th June 2017.

On the first day back in school, Monday 5th of June the children and staff in Northgate are invited to take part in Opposite Day – a celebration of how they perceive themselves and others and a way to gain a greater understanding of what it is like to walk in other people’s shoes. Be as creative as you want to be, think clothes, hair, shoes, accessories – anything that would be opposite to what they themselves would think to wear. This is inspired by the story Through The Magic Mirror by Anthony Browne

and will be a fantastic way to kick start our unit of inquiry A Reflection of Me. Also if you have any mirrors at home (small in size) that could be borrowed during our unit of inquiry (all will be returned in their original condition) please could you bring them to school during the first week of next term. Thank you.

Maths: KS2 Problem Solving 2 page 4 or KS2 Problem Solving 1 Number Puzzles 2 page 4.

English: CGP KS2 English Spelling pages 20 and 21.

Please click the following links and complete as many questions as you are able to.

Irregular Plurals

Spellings: Thank you for your support with spellings, there has been a significant improvement in terms of achievement as well a bringing their book into school to practise.

Spellings to be tested on Friday the 9th of June.

Handwriting: Spellings will now be given as handwriting homework on a Friday to support spelling practise and encourage cursive letter formation. Please encourage your child to write cursively at all times, the national expected standard is for children to demonstrate this skill within their writing and must use this consistently to exceed the curriculum standard for year 3. Handwriting is taught within the school curriculum but support at home will also help.

Times tables –  Please practise times tables with your children, they must know there 3, 4 and 8 x table as a minimum but the more they learn the easier they will find problem solving. Times Tables Rock Stars is a great website/app for the children to learn from. There are also x table posters in the packs that have been given to you.

Reading: Listening to your child regularly is still a vital part of their learning journey as you can hear any misconceptions and provide lots of opportunities for comprehension by asking them about their reading, likes and dislikes, events, characters etc. Please encourage your child to read daily and complete this in their reading diary. Encourage your child to reflect on their reading and complete their book review in the free reading diary.

Please check the blog for an insight into your child’s week at school and to find out the secret word.

Thank you for your hard work, effort and continued support.

The Year 3 Team.
