Northgate have spent the week multiplying like calculators!

In Maths this week, Northgate have been revisiting their multiplication skills. Using the grid method, the children have been consolidating the method of portioning, multiplying, adding and checking their answers. The children have been using their skills independently, whilst also working in pairs to help each other reinforce the method. Some members of Northgate took over the class and became the teacher to solve some sums on the board. Growing further with confidence, some children began to multiply 3 digit numbers – excellent brain stretching!

Within literacy this week, with their expert knowledge of non-chronological reports, the children were excited to present their information about the Wright Brothers. The children were extremely enthusiastic to learn all about the inventors; their early life, the first flight and how planes have evolved throughout the years. Northgate began by producing subordinating clauses within sentences, which they then applied within their report writing – super use of skills Northgate!

Within our Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar sessions, the children have focused on prepositions this week. They have been sorting prepositions into time, place and cause and producing sentences using prepositions accurately. These sessions are proving effective within their Literacy and Topic work.

The children have also been making use of our extensive classroom library, enjoying many new genres and authors. Within the classroom, the children are encouraged to read their stories once they have completed their work.

Within their transdisciplinary learning their week, Northgate have continued to investigate some of the Science behind transport and how it works. The children produced a set of instructions, detailing how to investigate friction – just like we did last week. The children used their knowledge of the key features from earlier in the term to produce excellent pieces – Well done Northgate.

Each class was extremely lucky this week to celebrate Chinese New Year in style! Suzie from Red Panda Workshops came to teach the children traditional Chinese dance, using ribbons. As you can see from the pictures, the children had a fantastic time experimenting with different movements and travel.

We continue to rehearse for our assembly. I’m extremely proud of how enthusiastic the children have been to learn and perfect their lines in preparation. Please continue to listen to them practice often to ensure they are confident to speak on stage.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year Three Team.
