Half a World Away.

It’s getting closer to Christmas and Northgate are certainly feeling the festive spirit!

This week in Literacy, Northgate used a story table to generate their own ideas of characters, setting and plot – before being introduced to the story we would focus on during the week. The children noticed a diary was on the table, which inspired them to create their own diary using their initial ideas – great job Northgate.

Northgate were later excited to learn the story table was based on the 2015 John Lewis advert ‘The Man on the Moon’, which can be found here.

Linking with their explorer’s topic, Northgate applied their knowledge of Space exploration to create a storyboard of the advert, retelling events using effective writing techniques and considering the importance of family and friends during the festive season.

In Maths, Northgate became researchers to gather data which they worked hard to collect from the St Martin’s community. A variety of research questions were created, including favourite pets, favourite games and even their favourite chef! Once they had analysed their data, Northgate created bar charts to present their results – super!

Towards the end of the week, Northgate used their coding skills to guide Bee Bots to famous landmarks around the world. First, we discussed key facts about the landmarks before identifying where they are on a map. Then, applying their geography skills, the children worked hard in teams to create algorithms to guide their Bee Bot on an around the world trip – from Australia to Canada!

Throughout the week, Northgate have been perfecting their songs and rehearsing the poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ in preparation for their performance next week, which they are very excited for you to hear.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year Three Team.
