What a way to start their second half term in Year 3!

Thank you to all of the wonderful parents who came to support the children, once again. These activities can’t happen without you and the staff and children are very grateful. The children of Northgate Class once again joined forces with their friends in Eastgate to begin their explorers topic at the marvelous, Broomheath Plantation. With the amazing Simon as their guide, the children took on a range of challenges aimed at introducing them to some of the difficulties people would have had when venturing into uncharted territory for the first time, and found some of the solutions that make exploration possible.

These included navigating and map making; building shelters and lighting fires. Many of the children learnt how to tie the various knots required to make a toggle for a tent peg and how to use them to turn a plastic sheet into a shelter for up to 15 children!

Later in the week, the children learnt some more new vocabulary as they wrote poems about Bonfire Night using onomatopoeia, similes and alliteration. These will be displayed in the classroom if you would like to see your child’s poem.

More new vocabulary was being learnt in maths too. The children found out what a right angle is, and what acute and obtuse angles are. An acute angle is smaller than a right angle, which makes it a cute little angle!

This half term is also the first time Year 3 will be benefiting from the expertise of Miss Walker teaching art on Thursday afternoons. Judging by the amazing pictures the children painted today, they will thrive in her sessions and produce fabulous work.

Looking forward to more exciting learning next week.
