Books & Bars.

This week in Northgate, the children have been learning how to write a book review.

The children first read good and bad book reviews and investigated the features of a good review. As you can read below, the children then wrote their own review of their favourite book. It has been wonderful to see Northgate’s love of books and stories grow over the years, and the pleasure that so many of them get from reading and sharing books and stories.

In maths this week, the children have been learning how to use a ‘singapore’ style of maths called ‘bar modelling’ to help them solve tricky ‘word problems’. This involves creating a visual representation of the problem using blocks or bars, that can then be used to figure out what calculation is needed to solve the problem.

Thank you all for your support of our Red/Pink charity awareness day on Friday. The children enjoyed dressing in their chosen colour, and have discussed some of the reasons behind the the day and the charities involved.

Finally, Christmas has started early in Northgate. The children have been designing their cards to help support the school, and give their parents a great reason to sends lots of Christmas cards this festival season. As you will see, the children have had a range of successes with their designs, but all have worked hard and enjoyed the processs.
