WOW! How good is MOSI?!

This week the children of Northgate class joined their older friends in Eastgate on a fascinating trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. The Museum has an unbelievable array of artifacts from the world of science and the heavy industries of the past and the children we truly blown away by many of them.

Beginning with the Air and Space Hall, the children saw everything from Model T Ford cars to Sinclair C5 electric tricycles from the 80s and massive military aeroplanes and helicopters. The classes then proceeded to the ‘Experiment’ area, where it was possible to get hands on with many cool science experiments and perplexing puzzles.

After a tasty picnic lunch, the classes visited the Power Hall, which showcased the history of engines and motors; from donkey power, through steam and diesel to electric and jet engines. The children loved the steam engine talk and demonstration. Northgate also had a chance to see how media technology had changed from the first printing presses, to telephones, radios, fax machines, early TVs and computers.

It was an amazing day and one that the children will remember for many years to come.

Also this week, the children pulled up the remaining vegetables from our Veg Trugs, and it was nice to see so many parents taking samples home (even if some of them were for pets rather that human consumption!).

Maths this week has been all about multiplication and division, and we will be continuing this important subject next week. Any practising of times table will be very useful, as it is important that the children learn as many as they can to help their speed and effectiveness as mathematicians.
