What's a Gruffalo?

Christmas Tree

What a wonderful week we have had in Newgate.

The week started with a walk to Hoole Methodist Church to decorate a Christmas tree on behalf of St Martins Academy. This year, as a class, we decided to have a theme and our theme was the Gruffalo and last week we began to create our very own felt Gruffalo face to put on the tree. With 25 wonderful faces and some fantastic paper chains it was complete and it looked very unique! Please feel free to take a visit to the church and vote for your favourite tree!

Newgate haven’t stopped there as we have also completed a book review on our favourite story ‘Stickman’. The children learnt about what a book review is and through discussion they selected their favourite part and then drew this taking extra care.

Finally, we have focused on estimation in our number work. The children have learnt that this is a sensible guess, one which you can then check after your estimation to see if it was right. It would be wonderful to hear of any estimating going on at home. The estimation of chocolate buttons went down a treat here in class. What about estimating how many days until Christmas?

Please refer to the homework blog.

Many thanks,

Miss Bowler, Mrs Thombs, Mrs Bebbington, Miss Roberts and Miss Humphreys.
