Hunting Salt Lions!

Newgate visit The Lion Salt Works and go hunting!

Our first trip to the Lion Salt Works was an amazing success! The children began their day by travelling on the bus. They had their hi-vis vests on and they were ready to go exploring. When we arrived the children were taken on a mini beast adventure in the gardens. We solved some animal puzzles and then we went off in groups to find some minibeasts. The children used the magnifying glasses and magnifying pots to look closely at the creatures they found. The teamwork and turn taking was amazing. We found a range of mini-beasts hiding in the garden; maybe you could go looking this weekend.

Following our minibeast workshop, we had our very first picnic lunch from Steve the Chef. After that, we had a poo workshop, not that great after lunch! The children spoke about what some animals eat and, using this information, tried to identify the animal by looking at their poo! After some fantastic discussion we identified one poo as that of a mouse and one as hedgehog poo!

trip 1

Our trip ended with a Newgate family photo. The team were all bursting with pride as the children blew us away with their behaviour and participation in each workshop.

Following our trip we have wrote sentences about what we enjoyed. The children demonstrated super letter formation and effort when segmenting to spell.

Please refer to the homework blog as we have put in lots of information about the next few weeks.

Many thanks,

Miss Bowler, Mrs Thombs and Mrs Bebbington.
