Hungry Caterpillars.

What a fantastic week we have had in Newgate.

The children have settled really well into the routine of school life and they are enjoying mixing and playing with not only the children in Newgate but the wider school community.

Its been wonderful to watch the children respond to the expectations of our school day and follow rules in and around the classroom. Each morning in morning challenge between 8.30-9 the children have been taking part in activities on the carpet. Independently they have been doing careful counting as well as practicing some of the tricky new sounds they have been learning.

One of our group activities this week has been to create a hungry caterpillar with our own faces to use as a self-registration tool in the morning. Although we take the register as a group the children will now place their caterpillar in the basket to show that they have entered the classroom and completed their morning jobs of putting away their book bag and purse.

The Hungry Caterpillar stayed in our minds while we were in child-initiated time this week as the children created a fruit shop so that the caterpillar could make healthy choices.

Please refer to the homework blog for this week’s task and a quick note for parents.

Many thanks,

Miss Bowler, Mrs Thombs and Mrs Bebbington.
