Measuring Up!

Measuring

This week in Newgate we have been busy being authors.

The children have written stories following a discussion about Oliver Jeffers the author of 'Lost and Found'. Some children rewrote the story using their very own story maps and others changed the characters. The children were on an absolute roll and ended up creating their very own magical story, each unique to the interest of the individual. We are immensely proud of the outcome and how far the children have come when applying their own ideas to create an imaginative story.

Not only have our pencils been on fire from all the writing, but we have been measuring lots this week too. We started by looking at non-standard measurements and used the blocks to measure the varying heights of penguins. Then the children carefully counted using 1:1 correspondence.

'Sid the Scientist', who helps us investigate, inspired us to look at measurement using a ruler. We have begun to look at the measurements of the different animals we have in our room using the standard measurements of cm and m.

Friday 16th February is a half-day and a full uniform day. Your child will not need their book bag on this day. Many thanks.
