Road Safety Week.

Newgate week 3

This week in Newgate the children have been really excited about the opportunity to take part in Scooter School with Mrs Thombs.

The children learnt all about road safety expectations when riding to school and near roads. The children thought about a variety of different situations that occur outside of school and recreated many through role-play in the playground. The children’s understanding of different safety issues was great to see and, as they now each have a high-vis vest to wear, they are keen to be seen when traveling to and from school. Please continue to use these during the winter and encourage your child to be safe in our local community.

After receiving their high-vis vests, the children explored materials that can be reflective or seen in the dark. We explored how CD’s and DVD’s would make a good high-vis vest although they wouldn’t be very comfortable.

Newgate have continued to focus on number this week in class. Following on from fantastic counting and addition the children used Beebots to search for different numbers and then write them in a variety of ways concentrating on their number formation. The children continued this learning in their provision by unlocking number padlocks and writing on missing number vests. Super job, Newgate!

Next week will be the beginning of our Christmas adventure as the countdown to the big day begins! Yes, this does mean that as of the Christmas lunch on Wednesday, the Newgate staff will be wearing Christmas jumpers!

Many thanks,

Miss Bowler, Miss Howarth and Mrs Thombs.
