Stickman 2

What an explosive first week back we have had in Newgate.

We began our week by exploring our first celebration in our ‘Festivals and Celebrations’ Topic. We focused on the stories that surround 'Bonfire Night'. Following this we explored the fireworks that we had seen as well as using the internet to search and find film clips of firework shows from around the world. The children then used these images to paint and print pictures of fireworks. Miss Howarth spent time creating firework biscuits and sausage fireworks too! The children created fantastic detailed designs that were bright in colour.

The highlight of our week was our Stickman trip to Delamere Forest. We were in our element as we shared the 'Stickman' story in an outdoor house with log chairs. The children listened carefully and then explored the forest floor to find appropriate sticks to represent the shape of a Stickman or a Stickman Lady Love. The children spent time creating funky hairstyles and clothing to really bring their Stickman to life and also building homes as well as pets to create a comfy environment.

We each then took our Stickman on an adventure walk to find the real Stickman himself! We walked through the woods with our ranger Peter. Peter explained to the children about different trees and animals that we saw along the way. What an amazing day which ended with a very tired but very happy Newgate!

Many thanks,

Miss Bowler, Miss Howarth and Mrs Thombs.
