A Close Look at Newgate.

w4 1 Newgate

This week in Newgate we have been learning all about our bodies.

We have investigated each other’s different body shapes by drawing around each other in pairs. The children focused on taking turns to draw around each other spending time and taking care to make sure each outline was clear. Following this the children then found out about some of the different bones in the body with the help from our very own Sam the Skeleton. Sam helped us to see many of the big and little bones that are in our body which help give us our shapes.

The children wanted to transfer this knowledge by drawing their own skeleton into the body outline. The children were focused and calm but the room was filled by 25 little voices all talking about their favourite bones in the body as well as identifying their favourite body parts like elboes and funny bones! Amazing talk and amazing learning, well done.

Our focus on bodies didn’t stop there as in Art the children are looking at the ‘5 Senses’. For the last few weeks they have been focusing on touch and this week they have progressed to sight. The children used their iPads to safely take pictures of their eyes and then use that image to paint an eye like their own. The each focused on the colours as well as the attention to detail of the eyelashes.

What a wonderful week we have had investigating our bodies and learning more about the topic ‘Magic Me’.

Please refer to the homework blog and return by Monday.

Many thanks,

Miss Bowler, Miss Howarth and Mrs Thombs.
