'An Outstanding School' – Ofsted June 2015   Read the report here

Date set: Friday 15th June 2018.

Date Returned: Friday 22nd June 2018

If your child does not understand anything encourage them to bring their homework to morning challenge where we can help them with the concepts. This week, the children’s homework is reinforcing the activities we have been doing in school across the week.

English: Please complete both adverbial sheets in the pack. One sheet is a cutting and sticking activity, the other is a writing. The children must write at least half the page (we do not expect them to complete the page, unless they wish to).

Reading: Please encourage your child to read daily and complete this in their reading diary, after every book they read. There are spare book review sheets in Eastgate, as there is not enough in the reading diaries. Encourage your child to reflect on their reading and complete their book review in the free reading diary.

Spellings: Please learn the spellings sent home. These will be tested on Friday 22nd June 2018.

Mathematics: Column subtraction sheet. Answers to be completed on the squared paper provided. Please ensure names are on the squared paper sheets handed back in.

Times Tables: Complete the ultimate times table challenge. The children should set a 10-minute timer and answer as many of them as possible. We have talked to them about answering all the ones they know first, then going back to the trickier ones.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Year 4 Team.

Date set: Friday 25th May 2018.

Also, next week, in Eastgate, it is that time in the term again - assessment week. Some assessments have already taken place, however we just want to reinforce the importance of the children taking them seriously. As already mentioned, these assessments are a celebration of what the children know and are used to demonstrate the depth of their learning. However, we do use them as part of our evidence when assessing the children’s attainment against the curriculum standards. Therefore, it is very important that the children take these assessments seriously. We consequently ask for your support in encouraging the children to be fully prepared for the busy week ahead by getting plenty of rest and eating a good breakfast!

Thank you for your continued support.

Please do ‘Sumdog’ with your child at home. This is an interactive maths game you can play online, or download as an app onto an iPad. The children have had lots of experience with Sumdog, throughout their time in school and are now therefore experts! They each have their own username, password and school code, which most know off by heart, and can share with you. Should they not know the code we have sent a copy of the log in details home with them. Have fun!

Handwriting – Please complete the handwriting poem that has been sent home.

Times TablesIt is essential your child is constantly practising their times tables at home, as times table knowledge underpins many mathematical concepts they will come across throughout school. An extra homework is now being sent home every week, to help the children practise this skill. The sheet has been sent home with your child, and they are to time themselves for 10 minutes, and see how many times tables they can correctly answer within that time. The idea being, every week the amount they answer correctly improves.

Spellings - There are no new spellings to learn over the half term. Please instead practise any tricky word you have come across in your spellings during this half term.

Reading: Listening to your child regularly is still a vital part of their learning journey as you can hear any misconceptions and provide lots of opportunities for comprehension by asking them about their reading, likes and dislikes, events, characters etc. Please encourage your child to read daily and complete this in their reading diary. Encourage your child to reflect on their reading and complete their book review in the free reading diary. Your child will not be able to change their book if it has not been signed by an adult at home or they haven’t read to you at least once.  Please ensure they complete their reading diary correctly, the teaching team provide support in school but it is vital that they are given support at home with this. They should be recording the date and page numbers they have read every time they are reading, whether to themselves or someone else. The children also now need to complete their book review after every book they have read. There are a basket full of blank book reviews in class. These will then be stapled to the page they have been recording reading that book on. Unfortunately they will not be able to have a new reading record until it has been completed correctly.

Please check the blog for an insight into your child’s week at school.

Thank you for your continued hard work, effort and support with your children at home.
