Eastgate have had another exciting week.

In English, the children have been planning their letters to Ernest Shackleton, in the role of one of the explorers who actually went on the exhibition! They have been trying hard to make their choice of vocabulary sound incredibly formal, yet exciting, and carefully selecting interesting sentence openers, and including the new skill they have learnt about – parenthesis.

The children have been introduced to another challenging new concept in maths this week – the place value of decimal numbers. Through their hard work and determination to take a risk and challenge themselves, they have been ordering a variety of decimal numbers on a number line, as well as partitioning them to understand their place value.

As you are probably aware, it has also been road safety week this week, and the children have had the opportunity to learn about all things road safety. They had a session with PC Bartlett about how to keep safe when, walking near roads, walking on the pavement, and in the car. On Thursday, the children practised, in small groups, implementing the ‘Green Cross Code’ when crossing the road outside of school. They also analysed case study examples, where children and people had not followed the Green Cross Code. As well as this, the children debated and discussed what advice they would give those people about crossing the road safely in future.

In their Topic work this week the children have been developing their geographical knowledge, by researching Colombia using an atlas.

We hope you all have another wonderful weekend!

See you next week.
