An Icy Start.

BeFunky Collage

What an excellent week back for our Eastgate Explorers!

We started the week off by becoming explorers at Broomheath – explorers are our new topic for this half term! The children had so much fun becoming explorers for the day! They took part in a range of activities, such as learning about bladed tools. The children learnt about the correct tools for a job and how to use them safely and look after them. They also learnt how to use basic methods to find your way around during the day, as well as about various ignition methods and the best routine for preparation. The children then had the opportunity to make real life explorer tents. They were told how  after  oxygen, the most important thing to find or make is a shelter! The practised building ‘quick builds,’ which they could take down an re assemble in ten minutes. We finished the day off in the best possible way – with marshmallows and hot chocolate around the campfire!

Once back in school, during their English sessions, the children wrote a recount about their day, followed by a descriptive piece of writing about Broomheath! On Thursday, the children were shown a really peculiar, creepy ice hand! They thought about and wrote about what it would be like to be as cold as the hand. All will become clear where this is leading to over the next couple of weeks!

In maths the children have been learning about how to add multiples of 1,000, using the inverse to check our answers, and identifying missing numbers in number patterns!

We also had our first ‘reading café’ this week, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. It was wonderful to see the enjoyment they took from reading anything they wanted.

A great week back had by all,

Enjoy your weekend,

The Year 4 Team.
