Time flies when you are having fun!

So, the second week of the new school is over (I don’t know where the time is going!). Eastgate have had another super week, completing lots of wonderful learning in class.

In English, the children have been introduced to their unit – ‘Stories containing Issues & Dilemmas.’ We read the story ‘Grubby Gertrude’ by David Walliams, from the book ‘The World’s Worst Children,’ and the children had the opportunity to internalise the language used within the text by acting out different pages from the book. They were incredible – I am sure there are a number of future West End stars in the classroom! On Thursday, they also wrote a descriptive piece of writing about Grubby Gertrude, using lots of different language features, such as similes, metaphors and expanded noun phrases. They were incredibly descriptive (my face was squirming marking them, they had some very disgusting ideas!).

As part of their media based topic on ‘How does the media change our thinking?’ this week, the children looked at adverts. They had the opportunity to watch a number of different adverts and analyse their key features. They also completed a sorting activity where they had to distinguish the difference between a brand a product.

The children have also been introduced to a very new and exciting memory game this week, called ‘MEMO.’ MEMO is designed as a whole class programme to provide the opportunity for every child to benefit from improving their working memory. There are five different activities, allowing for one to be used on each day of the week for about 20 minutes. MEMO is centred around using cards, which display a question on the front and answer on the back. The children work in pairs, taking it in turns to be ‘The Questioner’ or ‘The Thinker.’ It’s all very exciting! I am sure they would love to tell you all about it.

Well done to all the children, for another great week! We hope you all have a lovely weekend, and we will see you on Monday!
