Measuring Up!

Bridgegate have had a wonderful week as the continued their inquiry into all things space.

Bridgegate blasted off on a trip across the universe aboard an inflatable planetarium, stopping off at the Sun, the Moon, planets and stars along the way. Thank you Techniquest for bringing the StarDome Planetarium to St Martin’s we really enjoyed it!

Inspired by their journey, Bridgegate exercised their knowledge of navigating non fiction texts, to conduct some research about Jupiter, Saturn and Mars. Working in house teams, the children gathered fascinating facts and presented their findings to the class. The children then used the information to write their own non-chronological report on their chosen planet- super teamwork Bridgegate.

Bridgegate have been measuring mad this week. Building on last week’s exploration of capacity and weight, the children investigated how to measure length. They began by identifying objects are shorter or longer than a metre stick and progressed to using a ruler and measuring in centimetres. The children would benefit from practising their new skills at home practically with a ruler and by playing the following games (require flash player), with support.

Well done to Chloe who has been exercising her measuring skills at home- super star! If you have been working with your child at home to consolidate or extend their skills please tweet us @StMartinsChest1.

Have a fabulous weekend.
