It has been an extremely exciting week in Bridgegte!

We have welcomed the arrival of one out of six potential chicks this week and all of the children are very excited for the possible arrival of more.

The children have created a pen for the first chick with an incubator to ensure ‘Clumsy’ feels safe and happy in his new habitat. We are now nervously awaiting the arrival of his brothers or sister chicks..

The children have really enjoyed observing the process of how chicks grow within their eggs during a 20 day cycle and the following videos may act as a stimulus for your child to show their understanding of the life cycle of a hen, thereby developing their vocabulary and understanding.

With all the excitement, the children have been motivated this week to write their own animal poems. The children's poems included a variety of creative alliteration, imaginative similes and fantastic rhyming words which has resulted in vibrant poetry produced by the children! Extending their Bridgegate brains further, the children have reviewed their own poems and their friends poems after presenting them to their working partners, which has encouraged the children to up level their work.

Within Spanish this week, it has been fantastic to see the children engrossed in Spanish wildlife documentaries and films. The children were challenged to reflect upon the documentaries and short films they were watching, to discuss the broad range of animals they observed, enabling the children to categorise such animals, based upon their natural habitat and survival needs.

Following the excitement of this week's chick arrival, Bridgegate have explored the Easter Story and have identified the emotions of the characters featured through role play and hot seating. This has been a great way to begin the Easter celebrations, as all of the children have eagerly applied their understanding and interpretation of the Easter story within their story writing.

If you would like to discuss the Easter story with your child at home during the holidays, or take part in any arts and craft ideas, the following links may provide some EGG-spiration!

The Christian Story of Easter

As a continuation of the children's hard work, the boys and girls have enjoyed exploring how Easter is celebrated around the world. Bridgegate designed and decorated their own Easter eggs and created wonderful rice crispy Easter cakes, using melted chocolate and mini eggs!

Thank you for all the support throughout this half term, the children have enjoyed every minute of their learning and have made the Year One Team extremely proud of their efforts.

Have a great weekend and please ensure the children get plenty of rest, in preparation for their visit to Chester Zoo, the Theatre and…. Bridgegate’s performance next week!
