The Year One Team were thrilled to welcome a well rested bunch of children back to school this week and what a week its been!

To kick start Bridegate's new transdisciplinary theme, ‘How We Express Ourselves’, the children have discussed the common features of traditional tales in class this week, such as the settings, and have explored many new and familiar fairy tale stories.

The following link provides a variety of traditional tales as ebooks, you may want to share with your child in order to identify popular settings such as in the woods, castles and magical cottages: Top Marks

To begin the week, Bridgegate were visited by an unwanted fairy tale creature who came into the classroom during Monday evening. Unfortunately, the unwanted creature broke into the classroom and destroyed the children’s learning area but thankfully, PC Bartlett was on call and came to the scene of the crime immediately the next morning. The boys and girls worked extremely hard as detectives alongside PC Bartlett to gather a range of evidence using iPads and created detailed wanted posters using exciting adjectives for description and fantastic and imaginative illustrations.

In addition, to celebrate the beginning of the new topic theme within art & design, Bridgegate illustrated fairy tale book covers for the story, The Three Little Pigs. The children did an excellent job  and the Year 1 team look forward to the work Bridgegate will complete due to the enthusiasm the children have demonstrated towards their learning throughout their current literacy lessons.

Within Maths, Bridgegate have explored the concept of doubling a given amount, ranging from numbers 1-20.

All of the children have worked extremely hard to develop their understanding  and to support your child’s learning at home, the following links will be of use:

On return back to school in religious studies, Bridgegate have started looking at parables and listened carefully to the story of The Lost Sheep. Once the story was complete and the children had time to reflect, they took part in a detailed discussion about things the children have lost in the past and how this made them feel. Following this, Bridgegate enjoyed sequencing and retelling the parable within their house teams with great confidence. It looks like we may have lots of future narrators on our hands!

Enjoy your weekend after an exciting and action packed week back.
