Take me to the Moon!

As it is the last week before half term, the children in Bridgegate have been very busy for the past couple of days rehearsing for Friday’s Harvest performance and collectively, all of St Martin’s children have made a great effort and sound fantastic!

At the beginning of the week, all the children in St Martin’s Academy enjoyed a taster Judo Masterclass session, alongside Delamere and Oak View. The children were introduced to what a typical judo session consists of and enjoyed observing lots of fun and physical activities. A big well done to Max and Kerry also, for challenging themselves and developing the key skills needed in judo!

To conclude Bridgegate’s current topic ‘Space’, within the Transdiciplinary theme ‘How We Organise Ourselves’, the children have worked hard this week to complete all of their space-themed work, which is now exhibited within Bridgegate’s classroom.

The exhibit displays both literacy based and art and design based work, which includes the labelling of rockets, observational drawings of the 3D rockets the children constructed, sequenced instructions, in both written and picture form and the imaginative, abstract portrait Aliens Bridgegate have created alongside Miss Walker.

In addition, towards the end of the week, the children explored the different phases of the moon using the following story book as a stimulus to their learning, which you may wish to watch with your child at home for them to recall their understanding: Papa, Please Get The Moon For Me. All the boys and girls in Bridgegate have developed their scientific vocabulary with regards to the moon’s different phases and are now aware of the different terminology to use when observing the moon’s size and shape each evening!

As a thank you from Churchill’s Retirement, Bridgegate also received a brand-new globe from our friend, Alan this week. We are positive the children will take great enjoyment from using and exploring this within next half term’s Transdiciplinary theme, ‘Where We Are In Space and Time’.

After a busy week in school and jam-packed half term, we would like to wish you and your child a restful and enjoyable break.
