Busy in Bridgegate!

It’s the second to last week in Bridgegate, where has this first half term gone?

This week, the children extended their Mathematical vocabulary and explored the months of the year. All of Bridgegate worked extremely hard to order all twelve months of the year in their house teams, independently too! Each child also identified key events that happen each month, such as Christmas, Halloween and even their birthdays by creating their very own birthday cakes and labelling them.

To support your child at home, you may wish to sing along with them to the following song when getting ready for school, in order to consolidate their knowledge and vocabulary: Months of the Year [Adverts]

Amongst all the fun that has been had in Maths this week, the boys and girls in Bridgegate have been busy getting creative in Art and Design. The children have explored the work of Pablo Picasso and have created their very own alien portraits, in the style of Cubist artists such as Picasso.

Once the children’s alien portraits are complete, the Year One Team will exhibit the final art pieces in the classroom for all parents to see.

In addition to the abstract art work each child has completed in class, Bridgegate have had great fun at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool this week, alongside their friends in Watergate! All the children were great representatives of St Martin’s Academy and had a great time analysing and comparing lots of different types of art work within the gallery. In a small workshop, the children had the opportunity to develop their realistic drawing skills and created their own portraits of their friends and self-portraits.

In literacy this week, Bridgegate applied their artistic skills yet again and sketched the rockets they made in class last week. They have labelled and created brilliant captions for their impressive drawings too. Alongside this work, the children have developed a set of instructions this week in order for their buddies in Newgate to create their very own rockets at home!

After a busy week in school, we would like to wish you and your child a restful and enjoyable weekend.

The Year One Team.
