This week in Bridgegate, the children have been learning all about Ordinal Numbers in Maths.

To do so, have observed an Olympic Race and have taken part in house team races themselves! Bridgegate took great enjoyment from racing one another in the hall and were all awarded medals for their fantastic effort, well done!

As the children's learning in Literacy has evolved, they are now focusing on 'Instructions' and have begun to develop their knowledge and understanding with regards to following a set of visual instructions, labelled by numbers. The children in Bridgegate have been working extremely hard and have made their own 'Space Smoothies' for astronauts such as Tim Peake, after identifying how difficult it is for astronauts to drink in space with no gravity!

To consolidate your child's learning at home, you may wish to take a look at some recipe books you have together and challenge your child to spot as many instructional features in the text as possible, such as numbers or time connectives. For example, they might notice the word 'first', 'next', 'then' or 'finally' being used. Lists of ingrediients are useful to spot too as well as the images used to help you follow the instruction.

Spelling Bee! A great effort has been made by all the children in Bridgegate yet again in this week's spelling quiz. The children have really enjoyed completing their spellings in class alongside their friends and it has been great to see the motivation and enthusiasm shown by each child. It is clear the children are working hard at home to practice all of their spellings as this week we have had excellent results once more! Keep it up and well done everybody.

Last but not least, this week in Bridgegate we had a very special guest who came to visit, the Worry Wizzard! The Worry Wizzard came into class not only to check on how Bridgegate were all settling in but she awarded Rosie Neame with a beautiful version of her very own unicorn drawing for her to take home! The children were inspired by the Worry Wizzard's visit for the rest of the afternoon and all were excited to share many, different and creative ways they are able to share their worries at home and in school in the future as well as different ways in which they can travel from them.

Have a lovely weekend once more and see you all on Monday.

The Year One Team.
